Dr Linus Chang has been a consultant gastroenterologist with Mater Hill Gastroenterology since 2010. He has special interests in high quality surveillance colonoscopy, surveillance upper endoscopy for monitoring of gastric intestinal metaplasia to detect early stomach cancer and Hepatitis B. He has special expertise in endoscopic ultrasound which is used to clarify intestinal subepithelial lesions, and pancreaticobiliary disease.

He undertook his gastroenterology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Townsville. He had further subspecialty training in endoscopic ultrasound and its role in the diagnosis and staging of upper gastrointestinal cancer at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth in 2009 with further periods of observation and hands-on training at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, USA and St Luc Hospital in Montreal, Canada.

Dr Chang was formerly staff specialist at the Mater Hospital Brisbane and lecturer with the University of Queensland. He was colonoscopy trainer for ten years to gastroenterology trainees at the Mater Hospital Brisbane. He is now solely in private practice and performs procedures at Mater Private South Brisbane, Westside Private in Taringa and Sunnybank Private Hospital.

Dr Elizabeth Goode is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist providing care for patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. She holds public appointments at the Mater Public Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and consults in private practice with Mater Hill Gastroenterology.

She provides general gastroenterology services, including diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as liver stiffness measurement using transient elastography (FibroScan). Her clinical interests include hepatology, particularly cholestatic liver disease, immune-mediated liver disease and viral hepatitis.

Dr Goode completed her medical degree at Imperial College London and undertook specialist gastroenterology training in the UK, including at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, a specialist liver transplant centre. She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge and Sanger Institute in the genetics of immune-mediated liver disease. She moved to Australia in 2020 and completed her specialist training at the Mater Hospital, Brisbane, and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Goode is involved in research as a clinician-researcher at QIMR Berghofer, with a focus on liver disease. She enjoys caring for patients across the full course of their condition, from investigation and diagnosis through to long-term management, and values clear communication and continuity of care.

Dr Mazhar Haque is a senior gastroenterologist with a special interest in liver disease. He commenced his medical training at the Mater Hospital South Brisbane in 2001, completing basic physician training in Queensland before undertaking advanced postgraduate training in gastroenterology at the Mater and Gold Coast Hospitals.

He completed an 18-month hepatology and liver transplant fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada and joined the Mater Adult Hospital as a staff specialist in 2010. Since then, he has been involved in clinical trials relating to fatty liver and viral hepatitis.

Dr Haque practises general gastroenterology and performs a range of endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He also provides regular FibroScan™ sessions, a non-invasive assessment used to measure liver fibrosis.

He is actively involved in medical education and continues to teach medical students and junior doctors. He holds a Senior Lecturer appointment with the University of Queensland and was awarded the UQMS Teaching Award for outstanding teaching in 2017.

Dr Haque consults privately with Mater Hill Gastroenterology and performs procedures at the Mater Private Hospital Endoscopy Unit, Sunnybank Private Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Springfield. He also consults at the Springfield Mater Hub.

Dr Peter Hendy is a gastroenterologist providing care across a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions. He completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 2005, following an undergraduate degree in biomedical science. His physician and advanced gastroenterology training was undertaken at the Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals in Brisbane.

Following completion of specialty training, Dr Hendy undertook a clinical research fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in the United Kingdom. He has a strong interest in general gastroenterology, including bowel cancer screening, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel diseases.

Dr Hendy has completed postgraduate studies in clinical education at Flinders University and holds a Senior Lecturer position with the University of Queensland Medical School. He is actively involved in teaching and supervising medical students, as well as physician and gastroenterology trainees, in his role as education lead and senior staff specialist at the Mater Hospital, Brisbane.

He consults privately with Mater Hill Gastroenterology and performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures at the Mater Private Hospital, South Brisbane.

Dr Adrian Maher is an interventional gastroenterologist who joined Mater Hill Gastroenterology in 2024. He specialises in diagnostic and therapeutic interventional endoscopy, as well as high-quality screening procedures for the prevention of gastrointestinal cancers.

He graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Doctor of Medicine, receiving both a University Medal and the Dean’s Medallion as Dux of Medicine. He later completed a Master of Internal Medicine at the University of Sydney. His physician training was undertaken at Toowoomba and Greenslopes Hospitals, followed by specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Mater and Princess Alexandra Hospitals.

Dr Maher completed a two-year fellowship in interventional endoscopy at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and subsequently undertook an observership at Harvard Medical School, gaining further experience in advanced endoscopic ultrasound techniques, including endoscopically guided liver biopsy, portal pressure measurement and variceal coiling.

He has extensive experience in interventional upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, including the management of Barrett’s oesophagus, complex polypectomy and the endoscopic repair of surgical complications. His practice also includes ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound and the advanced endoscopic management of hepatobiliary disorders.

Dr Maher is a Lecturer with the University of Queensland and is actively involved in research and the teaching of medical students and training doctors. He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Queensland and the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

He consults at the Salmon Building in South Brisbane and performs procedures at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital. He also holds a public appointment at the Mater Adults Hospital Brisbane.

Dr Sylvia Vigh is a Brisbane-trained gastroenterologist and hepatologist providing specialist care across general gastroenterology and hepatology. She completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1999 before undertaking physician training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She then completed specialist gastroenterology training across several Brisbane hospitals and has held a Visiting Medical Officer appointment at Mater Adult Hospital South Brisbane and Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland School of Medicine.

Dr Vigh manages a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. Her clinical interests include hepatology, particularly the management of Hepatitis B and C and access to FibroScan, as well as women’s digestive health, inflammatory bowel disease, and diagnostic endoscopic procedures. She also provides care for patients with general gastroenterology concerns.

She consults at Mater Hill Gastroenterology in South Brisbane and performs endoscopic procedures at Mater Private Hospital.

In addition, Dr Vigh provides gastroenterology consultations at Springfield Hub and performs procedures at Mater Springfield Private Hospital, supporting patients across Brisbane’s western suburbs.

Dr Johannes Wittmann graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1994 and has been in specialist gastroenterology practice at the Mater Hospital Brisbane since 2004. He completed his specialist training in Sydney and London and works as a part time staff specialist at the Mater Hospital Brisbane and in private practice with colleagues from the Mater Hill Gastroenterology group at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. He is a RACP National Examination Panel member since 2010 and each year assists with the clinical exams at various sites around Australia. Dr Wittmann is involved with peer education activities including the ongoing training and support of endoscopy staff and participating in national meetings as invited faculty.

Dr Wittmann provides comprehensive endoscopic services including interventional endoluminal stenting,  endoscopic ultrasound, upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, small bowel capsule endoscopy services and general gastroenterology and hepatology consulting services. His special interests include screening colonoscopy and viral hepatitis.

Dr Wittmann sees private patients at the Salmon Building offices of Mater Hill Gastroenterology and inpatients at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. Public patients and uninsured patients not able to self-fund procedures if needed should be referred to the Mater Hospital Brisbane via the Business Referral Centre.
